Walker College Foundation introduces alumni and friends travel program

The Walker College Foundation is pleased to introduce our new Alumni and Friends Travel Program with two trips overseas in 2016. The trips are open to any community member who enjoys traveling and are organized by Education First’s Go Ahead Tours.

For those who want to experience multiple countries in a 12-day adventure, Spring 2016 features the four European capitals of France, Italy, Slovenia and Austria. Admirers of architecture, theater, history, and great food, will want to sign up for the April 7, 2016 trip to Paris, Venice, Ljubljana, and Vienna. There is also an optional three-day extension to Prague, Czech Republic - the City of a Hundred Spires.

The base cost of the European trip is approximately $4,100 per person/double occupancy and the Prague extension is an additional $449 per person. Add-on excursions available on this trip include a tour of the palace and gardens of Versailles, Notre Dame & Luxembourg Gardens, dinner and cruise on the Danube River, a day trip to Verona and an evening at the opera in Vienna. A detailed itinerary with costs, optional excursions, payment information, and a link to enroll can be found online at The group flight enrollment deadline for this trip is December 9, 2015.

The Fall 2016 trip takes travelers to ancient Peru to visit the Lost City of the Incas at Machu Picchu and the popular South American cities of Cuzco and Lima. The 12-day trip leaves on September 29, 2016 and begins in Lima with tours of the Larco Museum, Plaza de Armas, Monastery of San Francisco and the Huaca Huallamarca archaeological site. The trip continues to Cuzco to view the La Merced Church, the ruins at Kenko and Puka Pucara, and the fortresses of Sacsayhuaman and the Koricancha Temple. Travelers will take a train to Aguas Calientes for their tour of Machu Picchu and then return to Cuzco for free time to explore on the last day. This trip offers an optional excursion to see the Nazca Lines by air and there is a three-day extension to the Amazon Forest.

The base cost of the South American trip is approximately $3,500 per person/double occupancy, the Nazca Lines excursion is an additional $449 per person, and the Amazon Forest extension is $499 per person. A detailed itinerary for this trip can be found online at The group flight enrollment deadline for this trip is June 1, 2016.

Both trips include roundtrip airfare from Birmingham, overnight stays in hotels with private bathrooms, breakfast daily, select lunches and dinners, a full-time tour director, ground and water transportation, guided tours, and admission costs for included attractions. Travel insurance, extensions, and add-on excursions are separate costs. Flight plans can be customized to meet the needs of travelers who are outside the Birmingham airport area.

The itineraries offered by EF’s Go Ahead tours are well organized and are designed to give the traveler free time in each city after comprehensive tours by local tour guides.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to visit places on your bucket list, try new traditions, explore ancient history, and experience life in a foreign country,” said Holly Trawick, executive director of the Walker College Foundation and group leader for the travel program. “We would love to see alumni, friends, and families travel together to reconnect and create new memories of unforgettable destinations.”
