The Walker College Foundation and Jasper Main Street hosted Canadian singer/songwriter Kenny Munshaw at the end of January 2016 for our second Downtown Stages. The event was held in Los Reyes Mexican Restaurant and had a crowd of around 75 listeners. The night was also a celebration of Tallulah Bankhead's birthday and the audience sang "Happy Birthday to Tallulah" as the night came to a close.
Kenny Munshaw is the original composer for Mr. Will & Dutch: Alabama's Legendary Bankheads. Toronto-born Munshaw’s love for music was instilled at a young age by his father who was a classical jazz pianist and his ragtime player grandfather. As a singer/songwriter with 30+ years of music experience, Munshaw has performed around the world and shared the stage with such musical legends as Gene Simmons, KISS, Shania Twain, Beverly Mahood, Tim McGraw, and Billy Ray Cyrus. Munshaw has performed at a wide variety of events such as The Calgary Stampede, and the G8 Summit for world leaders including Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and U.S. President Barak Obama. With three full-length albums and four chart singles on the Canadian country music charts, Munshaw is back in his Savannah, Georgia studio working on his fourth album.
The singing event was the second event held by these partner organizations and is hoped to be followed by more events held in locations around downtown Jasper to bring entertainment opportunities to the area and highlight our great downtown. Jasper Main Street is a new member of Main Street Alabama.
