Walker College Foundation Holds Open House

The Walker College Foundation recently held an open house to highlight their newly renovated office and the beginning of a Walker College history collection.

Business and community members attended the public reception to see the office space, meet the Board of Trustees and view the history collection. Many of the attendees were Walker College alumni and spent time looking through photos and yearbooks while telling stories about their classes and instructors.

The Walker College Foundation is working to restart the Walker College Alumni Association and add to the collection of Walker College historical memorabilia. Plans for a Walker College history book are in progress and the community is encouraged to send photos or stories that could be used in a book about the people that made the college.

The primary mission of the Walker College Foundation is to provide scholarships to students attending the Bevill State Community College - Walker College Campus. These scholarships, available due to endowed scholarship funds from area families, have totalled almost $3 million for more than 1500 students over the last 20 years. Future plans include offering transfer scholarships to students attending a four-year college.
