As a proud partner of the Read Alabama: The Tradition Continues program, we are excited to share the schedule for the 2018 season with you. Walker College Foundation has been a part of this outstanding program for many years and we are looking forward to another great season. The program is free to the public and provides a rare opportunity for students and community members to meet and spend time with published Alabama authors.
Walker College Foundation has scheduled the 2019 trip with alumni and friends to Southern Italy and Sicily for April 6-18, 2019. The 12-day trip begins in Catania, Sicily and ends in Salerno, Italy. Tours are included in each city with plenty of free time to explore on your own or book an optional excursion.
All Walker College and BSCC-Walker College Campus alumni athletes are invited to join us for a social before the first Bevill State basketball game on November 2, 2017 from 5:00-6:30 pm. The gathering is to provide former athletes a venue to meet friends, become reacquainted with classmates, and show support for the new basketball team. Alumni will be recognized during the game which begins at 7 pm in Glen Clem Gym.

Walker College Foundation has awarded transfer scholarships to five scholars who have completed their associate in science or art degree from Bevill State Community College - Walker College Campus. Jonathan Sargent, Diego Pascual, Kayla Key, Lynsie Taylor, and Josie Walker will continue their higher education goals at four-year universities this fall.

Walker College Foundation has scheduled the 2018 trip to Australia and New Zealand for October 6-23, 2018. The 15-day trip begins in Melbourne and ends in Auckland, New Zealand.

WCF Scholars Diego Pascual and Jonathan Sargent were recently chosen by faculty and staff to represent the Walker College Campus at the 2017 All Alabama/All USA Academic Competition.
The Walker College Foundation (WCF) recently announced the establishment of the Dr. Jack L. Mott Endowed Scholarship Fund. Jack passed away on May 29, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He will be missed.
The Walker College Foundation (WCF) awarded $236,000 in scholarship funds for the 2016-17 school year and held a reception to honor new and returning scholars and their families.
Dr. David Jack Rowland, former Walker College president and an active member of the Jasper community for more than 60 years, was honored recently by having a bridge on Interstate 22 named in his honor.
WCF scholars Josie Walker, Jonathan Sargent, Trenton Burton, Lynsie Taylor, Brittany Cagle, Molli Clark, Diego Pascual, and Savannah Freeman were recently selected by Bevill State to join the National Student Leadership Society. The Society provides leadership training and scholarship opportunities, and membership is for life.

The Walker College Foundation proudly announces the establishment of the Dr. David Jack and Mary Ellen Rowland Family Endowed Scholarship Fund. The new scholarship fund is comprised of gifts from the Rowland family, community members, and the Walker College Foundation trustees, and will benefit students attending the Walker College Campus of Bevill State Community College.

The audience was treated to a fascinating story as Armour presented the history behind the Home for Wayward Boys. Read Alabama is in its 23rd year and is a great partnership between Bevill State Community College and Walker College Foundation, Inc., Alabama Power Company, The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County, NewSouth Books, Walker County Arts Alliance, and Jasper Main Street.
Join us on Tuesday, March 15th as we partner with Bevill State to bring Liz Huntley to Jasper, Alabama. Liz is a prominent Birmingham attorney whose story is an inspiration. She is a tremendous speaker and we are excited to feature her as our last Read Alabama of 2016.
The Walker College Foundation and Jasper Main Street hosted Canadian singer/songwriter Kenny Munshaw at the end of January 2016 for our second Downtown Stages. The event was held in Los Reyes Mexican Restaurant and had a crowd of around 75 listeners. The night was also a celebration of Tallulah Bankhead's birthday and the audience sang "Happy Birthday to Tallulah" as the night came to a close. The program, in its 23rd year, continues a partnership between Bevill State Community College, Walker College Foundation, The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County, Alabama Power Company, Walker County Arts Alliance, Jasper Downtown, and New South Books. Each program begins at 4 p.m. with a reception at 3:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
We were thrilled to host Birmingham-based Sojourns Fair Trade Store at a holiday open house in November. Sojourns sells fair trade gifts hand made by people who live in the poorest areas of the world. The fair trade industry helps those individuals support themselves by providing them with the means to sell their products. Sojourns donated 10% of their sales to the WCF Scholarship fund. It was great to be part of an event that supported people who need our help locally and across the world.
The Walker College Foundation and Jasper Downtown hosted Nashville singer/songwriter Anne E. DeChant and acclaimed author Frye Gaillard in December for our first Downtown Stages. The event was held in Bare Bones Cargo to a great crowd of enthusiastic listeners. The singing event is hoped to be the first of more events held in locations around downtown Jasper to bring entertainment opportunities to the area and highlight our great downtown. Downtown Jasper is a new member of Main Street Alabama.

Over the years, the Walker College Foundation has provided a multitude of scholarships for students to attend Bevill State Community College, and the number of financial aid awarded continues to grow. This year, the foundation awarded $200,000 in scholarships for both incoming freshman and returning students.
Dr. David Rowland, the pioneer of Walker College, was recently honored for his contributions to downtown Jasper and Walker County. He was recognized by his peers, friends and family at the Bankhead House and Heritage Center on June 30, 2015.
The Walker College Foundation is pleased to introduce our new Alumni and Friends Travel Program with two trips overseas in 2016. The trips are open to any community member who enjoys traveling and are organized by Education First’s Go Ahead Tours.

The Walker College Foundation is partnering with Bevill State Community College to present READ Alabama! The Tradition Continues 2015! This author/scholar-led literary program features Alabama writers and their published works.
In an effort to grow and have more of an impact throughout the community, the foundation recently hired Holly Trawick as its executive director. Trawick worked at BSCC for approximately 13 years and has been heavily involved for a number of years in local charities and nonprofit organizations.
The Walker College Foundation is collecting historical photos, news articles and memorabilia from the former Walker College to create a historical library and book. If you have items you would like to contribute, please contact us to be a part of this exciting commemoration.
